Tennis Play Day Rocks the Courts at Baltimore’s Patterson Park

Nearly 100 kids came out to Patterson Park in East Baltimore on Sunday, May 6, to celebrate healthy living through tennis at the USTA “Battle Against Obesity.” The USTA Maryland District and Mid-Atlantic Section teamed up with local partners including the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks, the Friends of Patterson Park, the Baltimore Tennis Club, Baltimore’s Safe & Sound Campaign, and the Baltimore Curriculum Project to stage this free family event. Vesa Ponkka has been named 2011 USOC National Coach of the year for Tennis by the U S Olympic Committee.

Vesa Ponkka, the senior director at The Junior Champion’s Center at the Tennis Center at College Park, has been named 2011 USOC National Coach of the year for Tennis by the U S Olympic Committee. Montgomery TennisPlex Groundbreaking Ceremony

The Montgomery TennisPlex, a public-private partnership between M-NCPPC, Montgomery Parks and Jack Schore Tennis, will be located adjacent to the Germantown Indoor Swim Center. The new facility is slated to open in the fall of 2012 and will provide tennis instruction and programming from Hall of Fame coach Jack Schore and his staff. Read More

Mid-Atlantic Tri Level News!

We recently prepared a statement concerning Tri-Level tennis changing to 4 Tier Tennis (4TT). That document explained why BNP Paribas had made this change, and that we needed to comply with it so that our 2012 winning teams would be able to attend the 2012 BNP Paribas championships in Indian Wells, California in March of 2013. We have now received some very disturbing news. BNP Paribas has “changed their mind” and reverted back to Tri-Level tennis. Read More

Tennis Patrons Comment on MSA Report

The Howard County Tennis Patrons (HCTP) are pleased that the Maryland Stadium Authority (MSA) report has been released and supports the benefits of a major tennis center at Troy Park. County Executive Ken Ulman has the information that he and his administration need in order to determine how to move forward with the Troy Park plans. Maryland teams compete in Mid-Atlantic’s 1st Annual JTT WILDCARD Invitational

This past weekend 30 teams and a total of 245 players from across the Mid-Atlantic came together to compete at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA. This round robin tournament gave teams a chance to experience the JTT TEAM format in a shortened version, rather than playing in a traditional four week local season. Teams competed in eight different divisions for a chance to win a wildcard to their respective JTT State Championship on July 21st and 22nd. Read More

Junior Team Tennis Wildcard Invitational March 3 & 4, 2012

The invitational will be a one day event so that teams do not have to commit to the whole weekend. JTT is a co-ed sport and a team must consist of at least 3 boys and at least 3 girls. All players on team must play in at least 3 matches to be eligible to advance. Any player with 350 or more MAS points as of Aug. 31, 2011 must play in advanced division. Draws will be limited to the first eight entries in each age division. So don’t delay! Read More
