Russell Fink: The Late Bloomer at age 87

College Park Tennis Club member Russell Fink achieved the highlight of his senior playing career two weeks ago at the USTA National Men’s 85s Clay Court Championships, winning a silver ball by reaching the final in singles. This caps off a remarkable year of top results for Mr. Fink, who has now risen to No. 3 in the country and No. 22 in the world for the 85s age division. What makes the story more remarkable is that he didn’t even pick up a racquet until his mid-50s. Read More

Maryland State 10-under Orange Ball Championships

The Maryland State 10-under Orange Ball Championships took place on Sunday, September 28 at Baker Park in Frederick, Maryland. The weather was great and the kids played hard, competing in boys and girls 10-under singles. All semifinalists qualified to advance to the MAS Red-Orange Ball Championships in a couple weeks. On September 27th and 28th, the University of Maryland Club Tennis team hosted its 2014 Tennis on Campus Maryland Fall Invitational at the Cole Field House Tennis Complex. Due to overwhelming popularity, the draw size increased this semester to accommodate 20 teams and over 180 players from other TOC schools in the Mid-Atlantic, Middle States, and Southern sections. Montgomery Tennis Plex Honored with 2014 USTA Facility Award

The USTA today announced that Montgomery TennisPlex in Boyds, Md., is one of 12 winners of its 33rd annual USTA Facility Awards Program, which recognizes excellence in the construction and/or renovation of tennis facilities throughout the country. Representatives from Montgomery TennisPlex will be honored at the USTA Semi-annual Meeting at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City on Aug. 30. Read More

USTA Maryland Takes Tennis to Paralympics Gateway to Gold Talent ID Day

USTA Maryland was invited by Baltimore City Recreation and Parks and the Kennedy Krieger Institute’s Physically Challenged Sports Program to present tennis as a demonstration activity at the U.S. Paralympics Gateway to Gold Talent ID Day on Sunday, June 15th, at Farring Bay Brook Recreation Center, a hub for adaptive and therapeutic recreation programming in Baltimore City. USTA/MAS announces inaugural Single Gender JTT Sectional Championships

USTA/Mid-Atlantic Section will host the Single Gender Junior Team Tennis (JTT) Sectional Championships on January 17-18, 2015. The Folkes Stevens Indoor Tennis Center was chosen as the site for this inaugural event, located on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. The 2014 TOC Maryland Spring Invitational

The University of Maryland Tennis on Campus club team hosted the 2014 TOC Maryland Spring Invitational on the weekend of April 5th and 6th at the Cole Field House Tennis Complex. Over the course of the tournament, 16 teams and over 140 players from TOC programs in the Mid-Atlantic and Middle States competed in the World Team Tennis (WTT) format. Read More
