 The USTA/Maryland District Inc., a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, is the governing body for tennis in Maryland. The organization was incorporated on March 22, 1976, originally as the Maryland Tennis Association.
 
USTA Maryland’s mission is to promote the growth and development of tennis in Maryland as a healthy lifetime sport available to all regardless of age and ability. USTA Maryland fosters an inclusive tennis environment and greater diversity throughout the sport.
 
USTA Maryland is a District of the USTA Mid-Atlantic Section, which is one of the 17 regional governing bodies of the United States Tennis Association. The Section also includes the District of Columbia, and state of Virginia, except for the city of Bristol, and certain counties of West Virginia. USTA Maryland is a recognized district the United States Tennis Association.
 
USTA Maryland’s Board of Directors is comprised of six officers and up to 3 at-large members. There is a staff of 5; program development is also supported by a Tennis Service Representative and a statewide system of volunteers.
 
There are approximately 14,500 junior, adult, family and life members, and approximately 170organizational members, including clubs, community tennis associations and park and recreation agency partners, schools, and service organizations.
 
Among the programs offered are USTA League Tennis, USTA Junior Team Tennis and 10&U Tennis using the QuickStart Tennis format. USTA Maryland sanctions junior, adult and senior level competitive tournaments, and promotes a Junior and Adult tournament points race. The Maryland Junior Points Race encourages players to accumulate points throughout the year by entering and playing in USTA Maryland sanctioned junior tournaments. The top 3 players with the highest point totals in each age division, boys and girls, are recognized at the USTA Maryland annual Awards Lunch as Team Maryland
 
USTA Maryland also provides grants to support Maryland community tennis associations, for new tennis program development, for tennis court renovation, and for adults and juniors competing in USTA national events.
