Tennis on Campus:
A team can be as few as 4 players (2 guys, 2 girls) or as many as 10. A league is usually 3 or more teams. Same gender teams can be formed on campus but to advance to state, sectional and national play there should be mixed genders. The World Team Tennis Format is used at the advancing levels with matches having 1 guys singles, 1 girls singles, 1 guys doubles, 1 girls doubles, 1 mixed. To self rate check out the Leagues page on this web site.
- Sectional Tournament – Feb.11-12, 2012 - Greenspring Racquet Club, Lutherville, MD.
- National Tournament – Cary Tennis Park, Cary, N.C.
Matches can be timed, pro sets, best of 2 sets (super tiebreaker for the 3rd set). The format on your campus can be whatever works for the participants and court time available. Some schools have 1 team that competes against other schools and other teams that compete against each other. Usually if a team competes against other schools there is more of a time commitment. Practices are an important part of this program.
Schools just starting USTA Team Tennis on the College Campus can qualify for free t-shirts, balls and supplies by contacting: Alicia von Lossberg, Community Tennis Administrator.
