Shriver-Harman Youth Tennis Scholarships Started

Part of the proceeds from a recent gala will be used to establish the Shriver-Harman Youth Tennis Scholarships, which will cover the costs of training for 43 weeks per year in the JTCC Advanced Development Program for specially selected players ages 7-10 from Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Tennis Play Day Rocks the Courts at Baltimore’s Patterson Park

Nearly 100 kids came out to Patterson Park in East Baltimore on Sunday, May 6, to celebrate healthy living through tennis at the USTA “Battle Against Obesity.” The USTA Maryland District and Mid-Atlantic Section teamed up with local partners including the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks, the Friends of Patterson Park, the Baltimore Tennis Club, Baltimore’s Safe & Sound Campaign, and the Baltimore Curriculum Project to stage this free family event. Vesa Ponkka has been named 2011 USOC National Coach of the year for Tennis by the U S Olympic Committee.

Vesa Ponkka, the senior director at The Junior Champion’s Center at the Tennis Center at College Park, has been named 2011 USOC National Coach of the year for Tennis by the U S Olympic Committee. The Howard County Tennis Patrons (HCTP) are pleased that the Maryland Stadium Authority (MSA) report has been released and supports the benefits of a major tennis center at Troy Park. County Executive Ken Ulman has the information that he and his administration need in order to determine how to move forward with the Troy Park plans. Montgomery TennisPlex Groundbreaking Ceremony

The Montgomery TennisPlex, a public-private partnership between M-NCPPC, Montgomery Parks and Jack Schore Tennis, will be located adjacent to the Germantown Indoor Swim Center.
